What is Trailma? Nepal's outdoor companion, explained

Trailma Team · Kathmandu, Nepal

A snow-capped peak rising above a high golden plain

If you've searched for a hiking app in Nepal, you've probably noticed the same thing we did: the big global apps treat Nepal as an afterthought. Trails are missing or wrong, maps assume a mobile signal that vanishes two hours out of Kathmandu, and nothing understands what it means to plan a twelve-day walk to a base camp. Trailma exists to fix that.

Trailma is your outdoor companion for Nepal: discover a trail, plan your adventure, follow the route, track your journey, share the experience.

Trailma in one paragraph

Trailma is a mobile app (iOS and Android) built in Kathmandu for anyone who enjoys being outdoors in Nepal. It brings trail discovery, route planning, offline navigation, activity tracking, achievements and community into one place. It works for a forty-minute morning run just as well as it works for the Annapurna Circuit — and it is designed from the ground up to keep working when the signal disappears.

What you can do with it

Discover trails

Find somewhere to go: popular treks, hidden day hikes, running loops, cycling routes, viewpoints, lakes, forests and villages. Nepal's outdoors is far larger than Everest and Annapurna, and Trailma is built to surface that.

Plan the adventure

See the route on a map with distance, duration, difficulty and an elevation profile. For multi-day treks, understand the sections, the villages and the climbs before you commit — so you can answer the questions that actually matter: how hard is it, how long will it take, what will I meet along the way?

Navigate offline

Download maps and routes before you leave. On the trail, Trailma uses your phone's GPS — which works without any mobile network — to show where you are, where the route goes and how far is left. This is the single most important promise of the app, and it is why we call ourselves offline-first rather than "also available offline".

Track every activity

Record hikes, treks, runs, walks and rides. Every activity becomes part of your history: distance, time, elevation, pace and the route you actually walked. Over time Trailma becomes a record of where you've been.

Earn medals

Milestones like your first 10 km, your first trek or your first pass above 5,000 m are marked with crafted, collectible medals — something you'll actually be proud to show, not a generic badge.

Share it with people who go outside

Post activities, photos and trail discoveries to a community made of people who hike, trek, run and ride in Nepal. Someone's adventure becomes your next plan.

Who Trailma is for

  • The casual explorer who wonders "where can I go this weekend?"
  • The runner looking for new routes and a clean record of their progress
  • The day hiker who loves ridges, forests and viewpoints around the valley
  • The trekker planning Everest Base Camp, Annapurna, Langtang, Manaslu, Mustang or Dolpo
  • The cyclist chasing mountain roads and off-road descents
  • The adventurer who wants to discover experiences beyond the guidebook

You don't need to be a mountaineer to use Trailma. If you like going outside, it's for you.

Why Nepal, specifically

Nepal is home to 8 of the world's 14 peaks above 8,000 metres, more than twenty protected areas and an outdoor culture that ranges from Himalayan expeditions to Saturday hikes above Kathmandu. A platform built for this place needs to respect its realities: no signal, real altitude, long multi-day itineraries, permits and seasons. Trailma is built for Nepal — not merely available in Nepal.

What Trailma is not

Trailma is not a trekking agency and doesn't sell tours or permits. It is software — a companion that helps you find, plan, navigate and remember your own adventures. For guided treks, permits and logistics, we point you toward licensed local operators and official sources, and our blog explains what you need to know.

Where to start

Download the app from the App Store or Google Play, pick a trail near you, look at the elevation profile, download the map and go. Then come back and tell us where you went.
